A Legacy of Loving Our Neighbors

In 2019 Lighthouse Christian Ministries received a major financial gift which was given to establish the Lighthouse Legacy Fund.  This special fund has two primary purposes:  to provide a long term and growing investment income source to augment our annual financial donations, and to provide an emergency cash reserve in support of the ongoing ministries of LCM.

The Lighthouse Legacy Fund is enabling us to move toward our vision of Thriving Neighbors and Neighborhoods.  Our vision is a community where healthy lifestyles and relationships dominate the culture.  A place where people and churches care and support each other, where lives are transformed and hope is the norm, where the saving Grace of the gospel of Jesus is proclaimed in word and action.

The Lighthouse Legacy Fund was established through an initial gift of $270,000 which continues to grow through investments being managed by the Finance Committee of the LCM Board of Directors.  Annual investment proceeds from the funds facilitate LCM’s growing ministry and continuing commitment to the communities of Bayview, Bacliff, and San Leon.  Our priority is to meet our neighbors’ immediate physical as well as spiritual needs, empowering all we serve as we move together into the future.

We continue to pray for God’s direction and wisdom as He calls us to impact our community in a number of new and exciting ways.  Our dreams include hope for a community gathering space for seniors and others, possibly providing coffee, hot meals and spiritual refreshment for the homeless or lonely.  Another possibility is a small grocery store, featuring fresh produce from our community garden, allowing families to “shop” at a significant discount and providing employment for our neighbors.  The possibilities are endless!

Ways to Give

There are two primary ways that individuals, families and businesses can participate in the Lighthouse Legacy Fund.  First, through immediate gifts and donations and second, through bequests and testamentary gifts as part of estate planning.  Several individuals who have blessed LCM in one of these ways would welcome the opportunity to share their stories with you.

Immediate Gifts and Donations

Immediate gifts of cash, securities, or other financial instruments or assets can be directed towards the fund as a special one-time donation in support of LCM.  Donors may consider directing a portion of the proceeds from the sale of a business, a vacation home, or other non-cash appreciated assets.  Others might consider giving through charitable remainder trusts, charitable lead trusts, life insurance policy transfers, retirement plan assets, or donor advised funds.

Bequests and Testamentary Gifts

Legacy gifts of cash, securities, or other financial instruments or assets can be directed towards the fund as a part of a donor’s estate.  Donors may consider including the Lighthouse Legacy Fund in their estate plans using various tools such as trusts, donor advised funds, wills, irrevocable life insurance trusts, retirement beneficiary designations, charitable remainder trusts, non-grantor charitable lead trusts, and qualified personal residence trusts.
